Showreels & behind the scenes

Making the Grade: Antarctica Showreel

The Sony PMW-200 is a fabulous camera which when recording at full 50mbps 4:2:2 depth, allows greater precision and control over reproduction of natural colours when in the post-production phase. Here, I show you just how incredible and awe-inspiring we can make those Antarctic icebergs look! The original footage was shoot whilst I was dangling on the end of a rope using the Zodiac winch. Lateral micro-movements of the rope have been removed using post-production filters, and later a simple colour grade, altering the final input and output levels of the image. Camerwork, editing, graphics and grading by Simon Vacher Films.

Natural History Showreel – Antarctica Showreel

Step inside the creative vision inside my mind as we take a tour through the pack ice and abundance of wildlife in Antarctic waters, shown through my Cold Climates show-reel. Material shot forms part of a new four part series Britain's Treasure Islands. Camerwork, editing, graphics and grading by Simon Vacher Films.

Natural History Showreel – Ascension Showreel

Ascension Island and St. Helena lay in the mid-Atlantic. Ascension is formed from a series of ancient volcanoes and is home to an abundance of wildlife including Green Turtles and Masked Boobys, and is also the home to a spectacular ecology experiment by Darwin and Joseph Hooker. Material shot forms part of a new four part series Britain's Treasure Islands. Camerwork, editing, graphics and grading by Simon Vacher Films.

Behind the scenes in Antarctica

Cameraman Simon Vacher takes us through filming an iceberg sequence through the Gerlache Straight, which forms part of the Antarctic Peninsula.

The sequence reveals the challenge of filming the reveal and grandeur of icebergs which regularly break off the vast ice shelves that form Antarctica, and float North East with the prevailing Antarctic currents. It's not an easy job! Simon dangled from a harness, and was smashed into ice floes and had a brush encounter with a Leopard Seal. Camerwork, editing, graphics and grading by Simon Vacher Films. Produced and directed by Simon Vacher.

Texvent - Atmosphere Control International

Texvent is lightweight, versatile distribution or transfer ducting, which is cost effective and easy to install. The textile is 100% synthetic, and is manufactured from a flame retardant material that has undergone rigorous testing by RINA and has succesfully met all the releveant requirements of SOLAS. It allows HVAC systems to keep pace with changes brought by increased out-of-area operations, the higher heat loads experienced when additional electrical equipment is fitted, or as a superiior alternative to traditional ducting and distribution materials. Motion graphics & post-production by Simon Vacher Films.

Simudyne - Engineering Reality

Welcome to Simudyne. We build places where decisions can be made, tested, and understood. We call them decision-spaces: created worlds engineered to match the real, whether it’s an office block in London or an entire Healthcare system in the USA – what works in the real world, works in our decision spaces. These simulations bring the latest evolutions of technology and super-computing power to help organisations manage risk, formulate strategic plans, optimise key processes, train and manage people, and improve their performance. Motion-graphics and post-production by Simon Vacher Films.

Sawfish Industries - Surf-handplane promotion

Tobe Vincent of Sawfish Industries approached us back in the Summer to help promote his latest masterpiece, the Sawfish Handplane. This is what we came up with after a Summers day on location at Polzeath beach in Cornwall. I can personally vouch for the fun these surf hand-planes bring! Camerwork, editing, graphics and grading by Simon Vacher Films. Produced and directed by Simon Vacher/Tobe Vincent.
